How To Make Money Online And What Products To Sell?

Product is King.

As I write this, I am certain that many “new-age” marketeers will beg to defer. I don’t blame them. Over the years, the internet has cultured a mindset that you can probably sell anything, next to the kitchen sink, if you package it professionally and throw in enough punchlines and bonuses to entice hopefuls into taking the bait.

Fact is, many such marketeers have succeeded wildly in generating obscene internet revenues using exactly such methods. And here then is my motion. I suggest that while presentation and packaging is important and will certainly “clinch” the sale, Product is still KING. Allow me to substantiate my case.

Some of you may remember the old adage : “Build a better mouse-trap.” Does it still apply today. I back it with a resounding “Yes!”. Let me illustrate my reasoning with two scenarios that I feel exemplifies :

1. A horrendous transaction experience for a buyer.
2. A prefect transaction experience for a buyer.

Scenario 1 : Horrendous

John visits a site promoting a product that promises to make him the richest blogger on the planet. He reads that he will receive absolutely everything he needs to instantly start a money making blog, get massive traffic and earn a substantial online income.

John promptly makes the purchase and logs into the members only site. Therein lies a tomes of how-to and marketing e-books, mostly pdfs and some self-made instructional videos. After hours of perusing the materials, he notices that one of the e-books is identical to that offered on another membership site. In fact, looking into his old folder, he already received that e-book when he made a purchase months ago!

With a sense of being swindled, he logs out , types an irate email to the site that sold him the membership, and effects the 100% money back guarantee. 2 days later he receives an email that his money was refunded, with no follow-up or explanation from the owner.

What do we have here?

An angry customer. A wastes of time. A profitless transaction. A bad reputation.

Scenario 2 : Perfect

John visits a site promoting a product that promises to make him the richest blogger on the planet. He reads that he will receive absolutely everything he needs to instantly start a money making blog, get massive traffic to that blog.

After the purchase, he logs in excitedly to the members area. He discovers a well written and original step-by-step guide to setting up Wordpress, an RSS plugin that will help him update his blog when he is not able to, a manual on promoting his blog with adwords, and a host of other easy-to-follow instructions on how to begin generating content the easy way.

In addition, he stumbles on another manual that taught him what he wanted to know. “How to drive traffic to your blog”. With this in hand, he proceeds to setup his social book marketing campaign, and post articles in relevant article aggregation sites. Within a week, he sees over 100s of visitors to his blog. All without spending a dime on advertising.

John, being extremely happy with his results, writes a thank you note to the site that sold him the product. Along with a heartfelt testimonial.

What have we here now?

A happy customer. A fruitful investment of time and money. A profitable sale. A better reputation.

And if you ask me, the critical difference is : No Refund!

Conclusion

So give some careful thought to what I am alluding to here. Many membership or product marketing sites succeed albeit using questionable methods. Yet, even more fail. Why? Due to inferior products that not only upsets the customer, but lands the site owner in what I call a Refund Cycle. Believe me, that’s one cycle you do not want to spiral down.

My advise for budding entrepreneurs, is to give careful thought and planning in creating or sourcing your products. Honesty is still the best policy!
