Are you an affiliate marketer, or are you selling your own products, either way, it should make you cringe when you see advertising that goes directly to the main sales page of the affiliate product owner, or to a multi-page web site’s specific sales page.

How many times do you think a visitor buys the first time they visit a web site?

Think of the last time you visited a web site yourself - say a travel site - like Orbitz, Expedia or Travelocity…go ahead and Yahoo or Google - “travel site”, these are the three top results that will show up.

First of all travel tickets are the most purchased item online, secondly these three sites are the big three, and thirdly you must register in order to buy anything, or be notified of any hot sales, or take full advantage of their services online.

The free service they offer you is the ability to search for your own travel itinerary and fares.

Go ahead look at each site - usually in the top right corner you will find a place to sign in or register - why do you suppose its there? Where did you first look when you got to the site - try it again?

NOW - The question - Did you book a ticket on the first site you visited, or the first time you visited the site you are most familiar with?

NO! You shopped around, didn’t you, before you made your choice.

OK - so what makes your site or your offers any different - well one thing you probably are not one of the big three!

- So what do you really want your visitor to do the first time they find your site then? - Register, Join, Signup, Opt-In, whatever it takes to get your visitors information.

If successful companies like these three giants in the travel business, practice the traffic generation principle of building responsive email list why would you not?
